Woody Davis Obituary, Cause Of Death – At the time of his passing on February 28, 2023, Norman “Woody” Davis was 85 years old. He passed away in the Cottages Assisted Living Memory Care in Shawano. When Woody Woodroe Davis was born on January 21, 1938 in Alexander City, Alabama, his parents were Earl Woodroe and Francis (Louis) Davis, both of whom were deceased at the time of their son’s birth. After finishing his secondary education in Waterloo, he moved to Toronto.
After graduating from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, he continued his education at the University of Houston for the next year and a half before transferring to the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse. There, he was granted a degree in connection with the topic. The town of Melrose, Wisconsin provided Woody with his initial opportunities in the teaching and coaching fields. On the 23rd of June in the year 1962, he got married to Donna Petterson in Melrose. There, the ceremony was actually carried out. Together, Woody and Donna crafted
the move to Shawano in 1964, and Woody began his career there as a teacher and coach, continuing there until his retirement in 1998. the year 1998 marked the end of Woody’s teaching career. Woody was quite enthusiastic about devoting his life to assisting young people in Shawano in all facets of athletics, and this was one of the many things for which he was known for. As he retired, he filled his time with activities such as golfing, playing cards, and spending time with his family and friends. He also attended events that were hosted by the local community and schools.
Woody enjoyed the privilege of serving on the city council for 18 years, during which time he was elected to represent Ward 3 of the city of Shawano. Throughout this period, Woody was a resident of Shawano. He felt an incredible amount of pleasure in the fact that the basketball team he coached in 1982 was able to advance to the WIAA State Basketball Tournament. This was a significant accomplishment for him. The fact that Woody was a part of the first group of coaches to be inducted into the Shawano High School Hall of Fame was something that Woody considered to be a tremendous honor. This achievement carried a great deal of weight and importance for him.
The only members of Woody’s family to survive him are his wife Donna, who he had been married to for the past 60 years, his sons Todd (Jean) and Scott, as well as his grandson Zachary, and his brother Gene (Cathy). In addition to this, he leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews who will carry on his legacy. When Woody was born, both of his parents, as well as several of his sister’s in-laws and his sister, had already passed away. There will be a get-together for family and friends at Zion Lutheran Church on the scheduled date.
