Shooting – The victim of the carjacking said to our company that he had pulled over to assist what he believed to be a vehicle that had broken down and that as soon as he exited his own vehicle, two male subjects approached him. They then stole his vehicle and drove off.
They proceeded to steal his vehicle after that. The fact that one of the suspects was armed led to the victim being forced to hand over the keys to his black Dodge Charger. The victim felt that he had no choice but to comply with the demands of the suspects.
As one of our deputies was on patrol in the area of Canaveral Groves Boulevard this afternoon at one o’clock, he came across what he believed to be the car that had been stolen. He was able to track it down and bring it back. The deputy was going to look into the situation when the vehicle suddenly sped away from the area. During that time, the deputy was going to look into the matter.
A little over ten minutes later, the automobile was found going southbound on Interstate 95, and our Aviation Unit (STAR) was able to retain track of it even as it continued to move at an exceedingly quick rate of speed. The vehicle traveled through the villages of Rockledge, Viera, and Cocoa before crossing the Hubert Humphrey Bridge onto Merritt Island on State Route 520. The bridge is also known as the Merritt Island Causeway.
