At approximately 5:20 p.m. on Monday, deputies who had been summoned to the 28000 block of Whitaker Lane in Winchester for the purpose of conducting a welfare check on a local man named Robert Bettencourt discovered his body there. Bettencourt could finally be found thanks to the efforts of the deputies.
It was found that Bettencourt had been the victim of what appears to have been a homicide after his body had been located inside of a home. The circumstances surrounding his death are still under investigation.
According to the sheriff’s department, “when deputies arrived, they found indications of forced entrance,” and following the incident, Bettencourt’s body revealed “marks of trauma.” Also, the sheriff’s department says that “when deputies arrived, they found indications of forced entry.” Also, the body of Bettencourt was found to have “evidence of trauma” on it, as stated by the Sheriff’s Department. After it was determined that a crime scene had been created, the investigation was handed off to the Central Homicide Unit for further investigation.
