Plymouth MN Shooting – In the wake of the death of a man that occurred at a house in Plymouth on Saturday evening, KARE 11 is gathering new information. At the time of the shooting, the residence was being rented out through the website VRBO.
According to the employees of the city, the property in question is a licensed rental property in Plymouth. Since it was first licensed as a rental property in December of the previous year, the city had not received any reports of problems originating from the property prior to Saturday.
“Absolutely on the edge of my seat. Unfortunately, it’s likely to continue like this for quite some time, “neighbor Matthew Haglund shared his thoughts. On the 5800 block of Oakview Lane North in Plymouth, where the fatal shooting occurred, Haglund resides in close proximity to the crime site.
On Monday, there were still a lot of unanswered concerns, including the subject of what regulations are in place to stop crimes from occurring in vacation homes in the first place. Over the phone, KARE 11 had a conversation with the “host” of the VRBO rental home. She does not own the property but manages the vacation rental business instead.
She did not want to talk on camera, but she did reveal that the VRBO rental had certain regulations, including one that prohibited gatherings and another that required renters to be at least 26 years old. She also disclosed that, in accordance with the VRBO booking, it was being rented just by one individual, with no other visitors present.
Neighbors, on the other hand, stated that a significantly different scenario actually played out, with a number of teenagers fleeing the house after the gunshot and a bus being brought in to take them away from the site. According to Real Estate Attorney Nancy Polomis, “Cities started considering because they recognized some of the problems that might come with short term rentals, although this is not always the case.” She noted that the rules and regulations governing rentals vary from city to city.
Polomis stated that “if the owner was abiding by the rental regulations of Plymouth and the host was reinforcing that and was imposing restrictions that may have even been more stringent than what the short-term rental platform required, then they’ve done what they can do.”

In front of his house, Haglund has witnessed a tragedy that he could never have anticipated happening. The fact that someone passed away is a horrifying development, as stated by Haglund.
KARE 11 has attempted to contact VRBO for a statement but has not yet received a response. The homeowner of the property stated that she did not wish to comment and that her attorney would be providing a statement instead.
The Plymouth Police Department has not made any statements regarding whether or not anyone has been arrested in connection with the incident.
