Olga Kennard Obituary, Cause Of Death – When we heard about the demise of Dr. Olga Kennard OBE FRS, the pioneer of the Cambridge Structural Database, our hearts were overwhelmed with an overwhelming sense of sadness. She was the first person to establish the database in its current form.
According to what has been stated, Dr. Olga Kennard expressed the following belief: “We (particularly J. D. Bernal and I) had an intense belief that the community exploitation of data will lead to the discovery of new knowledge which surpasses the findings of individual investigations.
During this trying time, we want the family and friends of Dr. Kennard to know that they are in our thoughts and that we share their sadness. We want them to know that we are thinking of them and that we feel their loss. We feel an immense amount of sympathy for the loss that they have endured.
It is a time for mourning, but it is also a moment to celebrate Olga’s many achievements, one of which was the establishment of the CSD. This is a moment that the entire community of structural scientists, including those not directly working with the CCDC, can come together and celebrate. This is the end outcome as a direct consequence of Olga’s early pioneering work in the field of structural science.
