Michael Rhodes Obituary, Death Cause – Michael Rhodes was an old friend of mine and a musical colleague, and I just found out that he passed away unexpectedly. This news has left me with a broken heart. During the course of several years, we collaborated on a variety of projects.
It had been far too long since I had spoken with him or seen him, and I am keenly aware of the void that his absence has produced in my life as a result of his absence having created this void. It had been much too long since I had seen or spoken with him for me to remember that he was ill; it had also been far too long since I had seen him.
The fact that the world has lost a musician who was one of a kind and with a groove that could not be imitated by anybody else is, despite this, of greater value. The sharpest of all sharps, in addition to being a punster who is superior to all of his contemporaries in this regard.
The fact that I was able to go on tour and perform with Michael, in addition to working with him on a number of recordings of songs, is something that I consider to be one of the greatest strokes of luck that I have ever had. When I initially went to Nashville in 1986, he was one of the first locals I met who would go on to become a buddy of mine.
He was also one of the first people I met in Nashville. Michael was a one-of-a-kind original who left an unforgettable impression on all of those individuals who had the good fortune to be a part of his inner circle. I am thankful to be with them at this time, but I share their sorrow at his departure and feel it just as deeply as they do.
I’m going to miss having him around. I hope that you get a good night’s sleep and that you can keep moving in the right direction even when you wake up. Love, Matty
