John Marr Obituary, Cause Of Death – After a long and difficult struggle against a wide range of tough medical conditions and procedures, John W. Marr, Sr. passed away on September 12th, 2022 in the comfort of his own home. His parents, Harold Sr. and Thelma (Nelson) Marr, were both residents of Thomaston.
Maine, which is where he was born on January 8, 1951. Both of his parents have since passed away. After finishing his tour of duty in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and remained there until 1970, when he was honorably dismissed from service.
While juggling the demands of having three young sons and working a variety of jobs, he attended a few different universities to earn his Associate’s degree. Throughout this time, he also worked several jobs. Once his daughter was born, he waited a few years before enrolling at what is now Southern New Hampshire University but at the time was known as New Hampshire College. He eventually graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Science.
During the course of his career, he held positions at a number of different businesses and organizations, including Fisher Engineering, the United States Postal Service (in both Maine and New Hampshire), Winebaum News, the Boston Globe, and finally the New York Times, where he was in charge of covering territory from Boston, Massachusetts to Springfield, Virginia. Fisher Engineering is still in operation today. He entered retirement not long after the demise of Linda, his first wife and the mother of his children.
