James Smith Obituary, Cause Of Death – James Franklin Smith, age 87, who resided on Seventh Street in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, March 8, 2023. Prior to his passing, Mr. Smith had been hospitalized for a brief period of time due to an illness.
On the 8th of April in 1935, he was born in Whitley County, Kentucky. His parents, Frank Smith and Mary Powers Smith, both passed away before his birth. Before he was even born, his father had already passed away. He was a very active member of the congregation at the Salem Baptist Church in Spout Springs, which is situated in Estill County.
This well-respected preacher and educator worked as a classroom instructor in the counties of Wolfe and Lee, in addition to serving as a substitute instructor in the county of Estill. The nickname “Brother Smith” has stuck with him throughout his life. He pastored the Heidelberg Baptist Church, the Stone Coal Baptist Church.
The Friendship Baptist Church, and the Nada Baptist Mission over the course of his more than half a century of service in the ministry. He served as the Director of Missions for the Boone’s Creek Baptist Association in addition to the Enterprise Baptist Association. He was on the staff of both of these associations. The Kentucky Baptist Convention recognized him as deserving of the honor of “Director of Missions of the Year” in 1999. This accolade was bestowed upon him.
