Gay Nell Horton Obituary, Death Cause – Mrs. Gay Nell Horton, age 86, of McBee, passed away in the comfort of her family’s arms on Saturday afternoon, March 11, 2023. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time of her passing. Her funeral service will begin at eleven o’clock on the morning of Wednesday, March 15th, 2023, and will take place at the Hartsville Chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Her burial will take place in the Abney Baptist Church Cemetery in Kershaw after the service.
At the funeral home, the family will host a visitation for friends one hour prior to the start of the service. Mrs. Horton was a lifelong resident of Kershaw County and the late Lonnie and Frances Taylor Horton’s only child and daughter. She worked at the MarMac factory in McBee till she retired and was a member of the Beauford Baptist Church. Gay Nell cherished her time spent with her church family and delighted in interacting with other people.
Her children, Gail (Perry) James of Hartsville and Stacey Benton of McBee, as well as her grandchildren, Bubba James, Jessica (Brandon) Peavy, and Amy Lamb, as well as her great-grandchildren, Cayden James, Abby Lear, Jaxon Peavy, Emily Kate Peavy, and Waylon James, will continue to honor their mother’s memory. She passed away on April 15, 2019. Her parents, her husband, Robert Horton; her son, Blake Benton; her special great-grandson and the light of her life,
Caleb James; and her siblings LJ Horton, Ed Horton, Wilbur Horton, Betty Hinson, and Vera Robinson all passed away before she did. She is survived by her great-grandson, Caleb James. In lieu of flowers, the family of Gay Nell has asked for memorial contributions to be made to the Beauford Baptist Church (address will be added shortly) The family of Mrs. Horton is fortunate to have Norton Funeral Home & Crematory caring for them during this difficult time.
