This week, Garland County has seen a total of five people lose their lives as a result of gun violence. The first incident was reported on Tuesday in Hot Springs. Deputy Courtney Kizer, the public information officer for the Garland County Sheriff’s Office, stated in a news release that the Garland County Communications Center received a call at 11:13 a.m. on Thursday in reference to a man and a woman who were located deceased inside the residence at 228 Buxton Loop.
The caller reported that she had received a phone call from her father, Daniel Chicas, “who was crying indicating he had shot ‘Joselyn’ who the caller described as her father’s wife,” the release stated. The caller indicated that she had identified Joselyn as her father’s wife. The caller and her husband made their way to the father’s house, where they discovered both the father and the father’s wife inside the house, both of whom were unresponsive.
Daniel Chicas and Joselyn Paz were located inside the house, both suffering from what seemed to be gunshot wounds, when sheriff’s deputies, investigators, and members of LifeNet were called to the situation and responded to the location. According to the announcement, the office of the Garland County coroner rushed to the site and pronounced both individuals dead. Then, both bodies were transported to the Arkansas Crime Laboratory for an autopsy report to be performed on them. According to what Kizer had to say in the press release, “This investigation is still active at this moment pending the results from the Crime Lab.”
